Affordable Care Act – Obamacare

The Affordable Care Act “Obamacare” was passed into law in March of 2010 and the Supreme Court upheld the law on June 28, 2012. This law requires everyone to have a qualified health insurance plan or pay a tax penalty.

Some of the benefits of the Affordable Care Act are:

  • Young adults up to age 26 can be covered on their parent’s plan
  • You can’t be canceled due to an honest mistake on your part
  • It eliminates problems of insurance coverage due to pre-existing conditions
  • Any rate hikes by insurance companies must be justified

This year, open enrollment is from November 1, 2015 through January 31, 2016. This is the time that you can purchase or make changes in your health care plan.
